I watched the New York Knicks and the Detroit Pistons this past weekend live from MSG. A few observations:
The Knicks came to play, the same couldn’t be said for the Pistons. New York raced out to a 29 point lead led by Chris Duhon and David Lee.
Duhon is the starting point guard for the Knicks and he is doing everything Coach D’Antoni wants. He pushes the ball in transition, hits the open man and can score it when needed. Currently, the former Blue Devil is 4th in the league in assists at 8.2 per game. Earlier this season, in case you missed it, Duhon dished out 22 in one game. (Why do people call assists dimes?) Duhon was able to log 48 minutes in the game vs. Detroit.
As for Lee, this guy is a bolt of energy. He rebounds at both ends, runs the floor hard and sets great screens (But Jalen Rose and Stephen A. Smith may not think much of that trait). Lee is great at sprinting to the screen and either rolling to the goal or slipping before he makes contact. Lee has now recorded 10 straight double-doubles.
The Knicks shared the ball, screened, spaced the floor, played with energy and made shots. As for the Pistons, well they finally got their wake-up call in the second half cutting the Knicks lead to five but couldn’t get any closer. Richard Hamilton was ejected during the contest.
At half-time Pistons assistant coach Dave Cowens said the team had no energy, that they needed to raise the energy level.
I love Pistons back-up swingman Aaron Afflalo. This guy comes in off the bench and defends, runs the floor hard and finishes. Head coach Michael Curry said he needs to find more minutes for the former UCLA Bruin.
PLAY THE RIGHT WAY!
