Disturbing news on former NBA guard Randy Smith. He died while running on the threadmill. Smith was 60 years old. I recall watching him play back in the 70’s for the Buffalo Braves with Bob McAdoo, Jimmy McMillian, Gar Heard and their coach was Dr. Jack Ramsey. He later played for my beloved Knicks. Smith appeared in 906 straight games over 12 seasons! He was a guy who pushed the ball up the floor with blinding speed in transition. He also could put the ball in the hole. Buffalo News has the story.

“Best athlete the college [Buffalo State] ever had. It’s hard to believe that a guy who was such a special athlete could pass away like that,” said Dick Bihr, the former Buffalo State men’s basketball coach and teammate of Smith at the college. “He was a special guy, and, in my era, he was a special athlete. He could do just about everything.”
