PLAY THE RIGHT WAY

Coach Steve Finamore

THIS OR THAT?

You see it all the time.  The great athlete who has zero fundamental skills.  Or the fundamentally sound player without speed, quickness or jumping ability.

Here is a piece from the Grand Rapids Press on an aspiring professional player who needs to be more fundamentally sound.  His coach has told him so now he is working to add the fundamentals to his leaping ability.

“I encouraged him last year and it just didn’t work out,” said Blast assistant coach Teddy Davis, who has been a mentor to Ferguson the past two years. “I was telling him that he needs to learn the fundamentals of the game. Ronald is such an amazing athlete. He jumps out of the gym. He’s quick and fast.

“I told him to be willing to learn and be patient and to play with fire — to do all the little things.”

As Doris Burke from ESPN would say, “Take it off the bounce…”
